Yarn dyeing behind the scenes #3

This time we have reached the last part of the yarn dyeing. In the first part ( which you can read here ) we prepared the yarn for dyeing, in the second part ( which you can read here ) we added color to the yarn, and today we show the remaining part of the process.

The yarn is rinsed

When the yarn has completely cooled, it is rinsed to remove potential excess dye. We wash it gently with a neutral wool soap (we use this one ) and squeeze out most of the water. In order to save as much as possible on water consumption in production, we reuse the washing water several times and only change it when necessary. The little bit of color that comes out in the water does not settle on the next fats, because it requires the right acid balance ( as we described in chapter 1 ).

Winding up and banners

After that, the yarn fat goes into laundry bags and gets a light spin in the washing machine before being hung to dry. When the yarn is dry, usually the next day, it is ready to be wound up.

Finally, banners must be applied. We have stamps for most of the colors and write the rest by hand. Each banner is given the name of the color and collected.

Now the yarn is ready! Most of the yarn is packed directly in boxes and sent out to those of you who have shopped on the webshop, or it is hung up in the store. Others are packed together and sent to our dealers. We send packages all over the world and think it's so nice to think that the yarn we hold in our hands here might soon end up on knitting needles on the other side of the world.

So we have the yarn in our hands many times before it is sent out to you, and we love every single step in the process. Each step has its own creative or meditative aspect, and we enjoy circling the details. It's great to create products that other people enjoy and turn into their own creative project. This is also why we are so happy when you share your projects with the hashtag #sysleriget on Instagram. Then we almost feel like we are allowed to have the yarn in our hands again.

Thank you for wanting to read along! Have a nice weekend and best regards
